What kind of artist...?

A question always in the back of ones mind.

What kind of artist am I?

What kind of artist are you?

What kind of art is actually "art"

Do you branch out?

Do you stick to one thing?

Do you mix and muddle until it makes something that's.....something else?

Do you try other techniques?

Or are you afraid that being shitty at another thing cancels out what you've deemed yourself "good at"

Either its all a joke, or none of it is.

Do you question it?

Do you feel the imposter syndrome, sneaking in, burrowing it’s way into your ideas and sense of self.

If I am to believe I’m an artist, what makes me that?

An excerpt from Jozie

“ Listen, when I look at you creating. No matter what it is, that’s your natural state.

I can see the evolution in your sketchbooks over the years, and how you translate it into works you’ve already started.

I can pinpoint when you started playing with different styles, different types of ink, watercolor, etc. And it’s phenomenal.

I love witnessing when you have a lightbulb moment of “oh shit, this might work, if I add it to that” and you go back. You rework.

You evolve.

You dont get stuck in one area. You’re able to take bits and pieces, and combine them in such a way….but that makes your work is still so uniquely yours.

You might try a different technique and say “ooo I like the color/texture, but not for this application, this is garbage, we hate it.”

And you don’t that it hinder your process, you find the best application for that technique.

Because of that aspect alone. You ARE an artist, my love. “
