Meet the Artist

“Art is to find something that fits perfectly where it doesn’t belong” - Alex Thatcher

  • It’s no surprise that Alex has been an artist his entire life, but in addition to trying out different mediums and styles to find his niche, he’s an avid gardener, a hacky sack (semi) pro, a listener of podcasts and will never shy away from an opportunity to make his kids dizzy on the merry go round. His dedication to his craft is almost as strong as his dedication to his family. With a wife, 3 kids, each with their own personalities and one on the spectrum requiring support needs and cats/a dog to boot, there’s never a dull moment in the Thatcher house.

  • Alex has been working with his hands to fabricate things beyond imagination for over 11 years at his present job. From scenery and mural painting, to installing interactive museum exhibits, he’s there from start to finish, with a “Solutions only” attitude that always gets the job done.

    But, what can he do?

    Sculpting/Carving - Monster clay is a favorite

Also uses Nomad sculpt program for 3D printing

. Want something specific, unique and able to be replicated? Slip Casting/ Epoxy Resin molds or even rubber block carving for stamping/print making are available services. Let us know!

    Woodworking / Wood burning

    Murals

  • With a style that is truly unique, he is always bringing in different perspectives and melding them together to create something that is entirely one of a kind. He can do anything from wood working, to giant murals. When you see his work, you automatically know it’s his.

What is his day job ?

Using his experience, and various acquired techniques in sculpting, carving, welding, mold making, painting, even rigging/installing…he mainly works with his hands.

Alex is an Exhibit Specialist at Heartland Scenic in Omaha, NE. Take a look at some of the phenomenal exhibits he helps to create. (linked at the bottom)

Let’s hear from some of his co-workers.

AKA the people around him all day.

  • “Professionally, he brings a dedicated and passionate focus to his craft. Even though he’s employed as a welder, the title doesn’t do him justice. His artistic skills (including sculpting and design) are often critical to the conception of products from clients all over the country.

Personally, I’ve always known Alex to be considerate. He takes time to listen to others and absorb what they are saying. He has a quick wit and always brings a positive and welcoming environment with him. I’ve never know him to be without art supplies or a hacky sack. If he’s not using one, he’s using the other. And is happy to share either!”

  • “A true creative, constantly exercising his imagination and honing his craft. He is an adventurous and passionate artisan who is always exploring new avenues for his art. His drive to create is inspiring.”

  • “ Alex is precise in his work. He’s always willing to help, and communicates clearly about when he will do things. If he messes up (rare), he takes full accountability. He’s multifaceted and passionate about the things he does.”

  • Alex is such a creatively brilliant person to work with. He knows how to keep work lighthearted when things get tough and has solutions to situations that feel futile. Alex is quite easy going, which makes him relatable and keeps communication flowing smoothly. He creates sculptures, metal works, and intricate details with innovative professionalism, which is why his work stands out! “

  • “ Working with Alex is a wonderful experience. He is creative, talented, and fun to be around. I’m proud to call him a coworker and a friend. “
